How it got the name?
Historian says that the cake got its name from the traditional dress worn by German women, in black forest which is black in color like chocolate flakes, blouse is white in color like whipped cream and the hat has red pom-pom similar to cherries.
History of black forest cake:
It was originated in late 16th century in the black forest region of Germany, Der Schwarzwald. The name Schwarzwald evokes mysteries and darkness from the romantic German concept of forest loneliness.
This region is known for its cherries; combining cherries with the German love chocolates this cake has been invented.
Josef killer is the inverter of black forest cherry cake who was the pastry chef in Agner Germany in 1915 at Café Agner which still exists; he first introduced the black forest cherry cake.
Since 1930 the cake become so popular today it is acknowledged as German cake all over the world.
Originally this chocolate cake is sprinkled with the cherry brandy, this high calories dessert is the famous among tourist in Germany across all restaurants and café.
In every two years, there is a cherry gateau festival in Todtnauberg with local pastry chefs who teach how to blend chocolate with whipped cream and cherry syrup to create such a delicious delicacy of Germany.

What you need:
1 tin Milkmaid.
1 tsp baking soda.
1 tsp baking powder.
1 tsp vanilla essence.
4 tbsp good quality cocoa powder.
1 and 3/4 cup all purpose flour.
100 g butter.
200 ml aerated soda.
2 cups of fresh cream.
1 cup cherries and cherry syrup.
1 cup shaved chocolate.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
Grease an 8-inch baking tin with butter and dust it with all purpose flour and remove the excess, keep it aside.
Sieve together the dry ingredient i.e. 1 and 3/4 cup all purpose flour, 1 Tsp baking soda, 1 Tsp baking powder and 4 tsp good quality cocoa powder.
In another bowl soften butter, milkmaid and vanilla essence and beat it well.
Add the dry mixture and aerated soda alternatively to the butter mixture and combine it well, make sure not to over beat it gently fold the mixture together.
Pour the batter into prepared baking tin and bake it for 40-45 minutes.
Insert the toothpick if it comes out clean your cake is ready.
Cool it down completely, then cutting it into 3 layers soak each of them with cherry syrup and to it up with whipped cream.
And decorated it with shaved chocolate and cherries.
